Secure deletion of files on hard drives.

I’m sure that sometimes we need to get rid of sensitive and important files such as personal documents, financial statements, passwords files and so on. Selecting the file you want to delete, hitting Delete button and clearing Recycle Bin are not secure and safe ways. There are in fact many utilities which can recover deleted files on you hard drive. Eraser is highly recommended security software which can make you feel secure whenever you want to delete any file.

Better control over Display Properties.

Sometimes you will get angry and frustrated when someone compromises Display Properties of your PC. Though Windows allows us to change themes, desktop background, appearances and graphic resolutions by ourselves, it’s useful to know how to prevent these settings from compromising by others. Here’s how:

Type ‘regedit’ in Run box to open registry editor. Navigate through HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\
CurrentVersion\Policies\System. Right-click on the right pane to show up pop-up menu. Choose New>DWORD Value. Name ‘NoDispBackgroundPage’ for the new DWORD. Right-click on ‘NoDispBackgroundPage’ to select ‘Modify’ form pop-up menu. Then Edit DWORD Value box appears. Change hexadecimal value to ‘1’. Click OK and it’s done. You need to reboot the PC to take effect. It’s always recommended to backup registry before testing!

If we select and copy the whole webpage which includes both texts and pics and paste it, for example, in Microsoft Word, what we get are unformatted texts and pics. Let’s get rid of unnecessary files.

As we all know that Windows has Disk Cleanup program to clean up outdated files from hard drive. I think this little software is more efficient. It lets you select many unnecessary files such as internet history files, cookies, temporary system files and others to clean up. You can even set the setting on which items to clean up on start-up. Explosion of spam.

According to the news, our inboxes are expected to be congested with more spam than before:

levels of the insidious mail clogging inboxes expected to grow at unprecedented levels.

In the closing months of 2006, the volume of spam jumped enormously, according to e-mail filtering firm Postini, with an increase of 73 percent in just the three months leading up to December.
